In the book the Shawshank Redemption the quote “Get busy living or get busy dying” is a perfect example of the character Andy. It is easy to tell that Andy is not a depressed person because he doesn’t let the guards or the warden get to him. He is living his life knowing that if he escapes he will be set for life.
This line is significant in the book Night because if Elie didn’t try to survive he would have easily died. Elies dad and Elie needed to try and survive because without one of them the other would be gone. When the other Jewish people didn’t try to live and knew they were going to die they were the ones who died first. In my life the quote is significant because if I just do nothing or don’t get busy I will be unhappy. Staying busy by working or social events will make you get busy living instead of not doing anything all day which means you might as well get busy dying.
In life people have things in there lives that they must do to keep them alive or give them a sense of being alive. These things can be hobbies and interests or anything else that will keep there mind active and alive. Prisoners or any one in an institution are people that usually need this the most. When Andy is in Shaw shank he ends up finding something to do to keep his mind occupied. Andy starts off with a hobby of polishing rocks and carving them doing this every day is keeping his mind active and focused on something. Once Andy is done with polishing rocks he then ends up working in the prison library. Another book that this quote relates to is the book Night. What makes this line significant to that book is that it has the same relation as and meaning as it dose in Shaw shank. The difference in Night is that people don’t find anything to do to keep them from losing their identity. This happens because the Germans take everything away from them including their identity. Because of this people are not busy living but they are busy dieing. This book shows just how important it is to keep our identity to keep ourselves alive. This same line get busy living or get busy dieing can also relate to my life. Having simple hobbies, interests and drams can give me a sense of something to live for. I have future dreams in my life after school and of things that I want to do and long term life plans and dreams. With out these I and many other people would simply feel that they do not have a whole lot to live for and on the inside they would be dieing. When someone doesn’t feel that they have anything to live for the become more down with things and lose their identity along with there lives.

The boy is split up from his mother and sister and now has to survive with his father in the concentration camp. So to think positive and never give up would be a very crucial thing in a Nazi concentration camp.

High school is a very important thing to pass and make sure you understand and if you're not motivated to do it then you should not even bother. The quote goes with it because I think if you don't get busy trying to pass school and understand your classes then you're going to get busy failing and not passing school. If you don’t try to make your life worth living or you don’t try and live it to its best you’re just waiting to die. Andy knew he would either break out now or forever stay in jail and die with out living.
Another example of this is Walter mity. He had little or no importance in the real world. But he kept on trying to make his life as exiting as possible. Walter tried to keep his life as exiting and not mundane as possible by make believing he worked as some thing like a sailor or a pilot. Walter did his best to keep his life moving.

He kept on asking if he had permission to go to the bathroom. He was not used to seeing women around him all the time. He just couldn’t handle being in the real world. He even was asking himself whether or not he should steal some money or items just to go back to jail cause he was so used to going. The line “Get busy living, or get busy dying” can also be said about the movie Final Fantasy 7 Advent Children because at the beginning of the movie Cloud is thinking of giving up on live and dieing. He is infected with this sickness called Geostigma, which there is no cure for and more importantly he still felt guilt for when he stood and watch his friend Aries die right in front of him and he could do nothing to stop it. He runs away from his new family and isolates himself from the outside world. When he goes to save the orphans that were living with him he could not fight properly. He ended up losing the fight and almost his life trying to rescue some kids that he cared about. He starts to look to see if sin can be forgiven. He starts to gain confidence as he does his best to protect his friends cause he knows what he is doing is for the best and is the answer to finding his forgiveness for himself. He even finds the cure for Geostigma which if he ran away and died in depression he would of never found. This line can be significant to my life because I have questioned for myself whether I should give up on my life. Life was going so bad for me and I didn’t know what to do. But in the end I just thought of how I should live my life so that I could be happy with my family and my friends who I care about and will always be ready to help out. If I didn’t have my friends or family I wouldn’t know where my life would be now. People need to decide whether or not they would live out their lives.
